How did the artistic collaboration between the USA Darling and NZ Heartbreaker come about and what was it inspired by?

Hayley sent me an amazing piece of art which was inspired by a Tweet I sent saying basically how I used to draw all the fabulous people that inspired me when I was a kid, and how fabulous and surreal it was that kids are now drawing me. She captured my persona and essence SO well, I simply had to figure out a way to collaborate with her. I have always been a comic book nerd and I spent much of my youth creating various glamorous superheroines and characters. I’ve also always loved pin-up art and Good Girl Art from the40′s/50s; characters like Torchy, Venus, Millie the Model. Sexy, tarty blonde bombshells who were really living. I thought why not create a series of comic book covers based on my exploits and drawn in that style. I thought it would be a cute addition to my blog and even further establish my persona. Hayley was really into it, we just clicked and ran with it.

How did you feel seeing yourself in illustrated form, and how is Hayley to work with?

Hayley is an amazingly talented graphic artist. Her ability to render me is strikingly uncanny, especially my hair (so much so my hairstylist commented on it). She always blows me away with her artwork. It’s basically a completely collaborative process. I’ll give her ideas for scenarios and she then adds her own details and magic. She’ll also come up with scenario ideas on her own as well. She’s a dream.

Do you see the project between yourself and Hayley extending to any further works, i.e comic strips?

That has definitely been discussed and is in the works. I would love to expand the project to a monthly newspaper-esque strip. I also have an idea for a somewhat related project that would be an actual comic book.

Your friends Semi Precious Weapons already have quite the New Zealand fanbase. For those not part of the Precious Empire, could you introduce yourself and your blog?

I’m a lifestyle blogger, celebrity confidant, makeup artist, homemaker and personality living in NYC. I’ve been writting my blog for a year now, my personal guide for being a glamorous blonde in NYC. It basically covers makeup, hair and glamour advice, style and fashion inspiration, celebrating famous blondes throughout history, my nightlife exploits, home decorating, even baking! I plan to eventually turn it into a lifestyle book series.

I’m also a friend, muse and makeup artist to SPW and a member of their artistic collective “the Precious Empire”, which consists of a group of NYC artists. We’re basically a gang who wants to take over the world. Luckily we seem to be succeeding. Haha!
